Abstract

This paper provides an evaluation and mathematical analysis of transformer-based power combiners for outphasing transmitters. Both voltage and current combining are discussed. The non-idealities associated with transformer parasitic coupling inductances are analyzed. This work proposes using a parallel-series combining transformer (PSCT) structure for 2-way outphasing. Finally, this work explores the implementation of a 4-way outphasing transmitter using a transformer combiner.
