Abstract
In order to describe the author's renewed interest in research and writing, she shares her research trajectory toward promotion to full. Around the late 2000s, several events occurred that revitalized her research interests. In 2006, Congress introduced national legislation that would have made it a felony if people were an unauthorized immigrant in the country illegally. In 2010, Arizona passed Senate Bill 1070, one of the toughest laws that targets unauthorized immigration in the United States. Women typically go up for full professor only when they feel ready. Men, she maintained, have more confidence about their work and are less distraught when they are denied for promotion. As a member of the Promotion and Tenure Committee, she reviews files that are from numerous disciplines. A good file is one where she can understand what a candidate does, even if it is utterly unrelatable to anything she do.
