Abstract

This paper presents a scheme for delivering high quality multimedia streams to Internet-enabled mobile clients. We focus on providing continuous media service with video that is encoded with an object-based approach, such as MPEG-4. Our main goal is to develop strategies for distributing continuous media through a distribution infrastructure to wireless mobile clients. The paper presents schemes for 1) Distribution of Object-based Continuous Media, 2) Information Quality based Distribution, and 3) Mobility-Aware Continuous Media Distribution. It identifies some tradeoffs between information quality and currency of information. This scheme will have significant impact in providing scalable solutions for multimedia information dissemination to a large number of mobile clients.
