Abstract
This study examines the role of culture brokers from the host community's perspective. The community under scrutiny is the Old Order Amish (OOA) based in Iowa (United States). The results indicate that the OOA object to their images being portrayed as relics of the past. They feel that brokers lack knowledge and have tendency to misinterpret their day-to-day cultural activities. This study also determined the direction of power flow within the tripartite system of Amish tourism and identified the Foucauldian 'targets' (the receivers as the tourists and the hosts) and the 'agents' (as the brokers). The results indicate a somewhat weak contributory role towards enhancement of social capital in the region.
