Abstract
Responsible leadership includes decisions and actions taken by corporations and their leaders to both avoid harmful consequences and enhance societal welfare for stakeholders and society at large. These dual goals correspond with two major themes in the corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and business ethics literature: namely, concerns about businesses’ detrimental impacts on society (avoiding “negatives”) and the objective of contributing to society (creating “positives”). In this reading, we illustrate the increasing trend of companies operating in cross-border contexts intensifying the demands on managers in these two key aspects of social responsibility.
