Abstract
Point-of-use knowledge access using a clinical workstation is described. Patient data and medical knowledge are localized and coupled using a microcomputer front end to a mainframe clinical information system. Both physical and temporal barriers to knowledge access are overcome. A well-developed ability to monitor users and applications forms the mainstay of the ongoing evaluation and development process.
