Farmers and airline managers are the two main components of the long chain of processes involved in producing biojet fuels from raw materials and delivering them to an aircraft tank, referred to as the life cycle stages of biojet fuel. Farmers and airline managers play a major role in making things happen by their actions. Their decisions influence whether and to what degree biojet fuel production and consumption are possible. It is essential for engineers to be aware of the developments around them to address sustainability issues such as climate change. They need to recognize that the particular product or service they design, build, and manufacture is part of a larger process, such as the life cycle stages along with the farmers and airline managers. They also need to understand that the materials and energy used to manufacture a product come from the outputs of other processes upstream in the life cycle stages.
