An investigation of susceptibility to subsynchronous resonance problems in turbine generators as function of shaft, network and load characteristics is the subject of this report. The evaluation of susceptibility to SSR was done through calculations of electrical damping to rotor speed perturbations and relating this to the value of modal damping required to cancel the estimated natural damping due to mechanical effects. The methodology of calculation is documented and results are presented for a number of network scenarios, machine and load characteristics. From these results some insight into the incidence of SSR phenomenon as function of shaft, machine, network and load characteristics has been derived.
