Abstract
We investigate the structure of wiggly-cosmic-string wakes by solving the fluid equations of motion under some simplifying assumptions. The flow of collisionless matter is treated first. Then the flow of a non-self-gravitating, nonrelativistic, ideal fluid is studied and the density structure of the wake is found. For typical values of the string tension, strong shocks are formed in the wakes after the epoch of recombination. It is shown that the post-shock fluid flow in these wakes will be vortical and the vorticity will lead to the generation of a magnetic field. A potential problem in the cosmic-string scenario for structure formation and its possible resolutions are discussed.
