Abstract

Silicon on Insulator (SOI) based field effect NANOWIRE sensor device enables very high sensitive detection of target molecules in the ambient atmosphere. It can be used for sensing of biochemical agents and toxic gases much below 1 part per billion concentration levelsThe new Nanowire technology improves the sensitivity of detection by at least one order of magnitude when compared to any other existing technology. a well engineered device is expected to give up to two to three orders of magnitude higher sensitivity. The device can beused multiple times, due an innovative resetting mechanism, and is stable over very long periods of time (years). It can be used in liquid phase snesing as well.Since it is based on silicon technology it is very cheap to fabricate, making it disposable. Use of silicon also allows integration with biological systems, for use inside the human body.
