Abstract

Based on the possible miss region derived from the kinematics equation of missile-target in two and three dimensional engagements, qualitative analysis is conducted to study capture characteristics of missile guidance commands. From this analysis, sufficient initial condition is assigned which, with the satisfaction of an inequality relation between missile and target commands, can guarantee capture with specific bounds on the line-of-sight rate response. As a special case, true or pure proportional navigation command is derived for straight flight target in two dimensional engagements.
