Abstract
The feasibility of the Light-Activated Silicon-Controlled Rectifier (LASCR) for HVDC systems is determined. Application of this photothyristor would simplify the firing system of the thyristor valve and simultaneously reduce the delay of firing as well as the turn-on overvoltages. The most suitable light source was established by comparing the experimental results.
