Abstract

The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of geographic information (GI) policy. A review of the Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) concept gives readers a framework for government GI organization, access, and use policy issues. The chapter concludes with an in-depth analyses of the U.S. National Spatial Data Infrastructure (NSDI), which summarizes one country’s past approaches and future directions for SDI implementation.
