title = "Pipe bursting of the millstone sanitary trunk sewer",
abstract = "This paper presents an overview of the Millstone Trunk Sanitary Sewer project conducted in Nanaimo, British Columbia. Due to increased population growth, the sewer line had exceeded its original design capacity and was currently experiencing inflow and infiltration problems. Over 4 km of 350 mm asbestos cement pipe was replaced with 650 mm High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. This was accomplished using the trenchless pipe bursting construction methods. Dayton & Knight Ltd., In conjunction with the National Research Council of Canada and the University of Alberta, undertook a testing and monitoring program to evaluate strain in the new pipe during installation and the extent of surface ground movement.",
