    This chapter serves as a starting point for clinicians and researchers providing the necessary background as well as future directions and applications of the available pharmacodynamic studies in therapeutic drug monitoring. A brief history of mycophenolate and the current understanding of its multiple mechanisms of action are included, as are a review of its preclinical and clinical data. Areas for additional necessary research are described.
