Abstract
This paper details the results of an investigation, carried out in Motorola's European Research Laboratory, focusing on transmitter linearity issues associated with the evolving TETRA standard. The investigation was carried out using a prototype TETRA radio developed within the lab, together with simulation analysis. Various linearised transmitter techniques were studied with the prototype radio being developed using a Cartesian Feedback approach. The prototype radio was also used to assess the linearisation process and the effect of this process on 'unsynchronised', adjacent channel TETRA systems. The simulation analysis concentrated on throughput, linearity and adjacent channel issues. The results show that practical, linearised transmitter solutions are technically feasible.
