title = "Methodology for the optimal reliability based design and analysis of pumping systems for water distribution networks",
abstract = "A methodology has been developed for the optimal (minimum cost) reliability based design of pumping systems. Two computer simulators, a reliability simulator and a hydraulic simulator, are incorporated into a nonlinear programming code to implicitly solve for a large number of constraints based upon the implicit function theorem. The multiplier penalty function method is used to accelerate convergence of the computations. Through this type of reliability analysis, uncertainties in meeting demands are considered from both the aspects of mechanical failure and inadequate supply.",
