Abstract
Most computational fluid dynamics codes for industrial application were developed as generalpurpose software packages applicable to a very wide range of problems. Such codes are typically written to address both laminar and turbulent flows, often in both the compressible and incompressible flow regimes, and usually include submodels for a variety of other physical processes such as mixing, chemical kinetics, heat transfer, and phase changes. This generality is needed for such codes to address a sufficiently large market of applications to sustain a commercial entity that develops and maintains the code and provides technical support for its user base.
