Abstract
Air quality modeling is of seminal importance to the assessment of air pollution control strategies. Laboratory studies of the hydroxyl radical initiated reactions of selected oxygenated compounds in the presence of ammonium sulfate aerosols were conducted using the relative rate technique. Aerosols affected the oxidation rates of certain VOC. The magnitudes of these effects were significant, and depended both on the characteristics of the organic and the aerosol considered. Detailed results will be presented for three of the compounds studied, i.e., diethyl ether, ethyl formate, and propionaldehyde.
