Abstract
The quality system of SMD assembly consists of data acquisition from the manufacturing process accomplished through a series of automated inspection systems. Two types of systems are used for visual inspection; 2- and 3-dimensional automated visual inspection (AVI) systems. Each one is capable of inspecting the SMD components for three characteristics: component presence/absence, and if present, the component's position and rotation. The key characteristic of these systems is the ability to provide an information system with real-time quantitative information of the quality characteristics being measured.
