Abstract
Here you will find detailed suggestions for using inquiry in any classroom, including those where a core program or paced curriculum is in place. This Teaching Tip chronicles the author's experience implementing inquiry in a second-grade classroom with a high percentage of English learners and students from backgrounds of poverty. Along with suggestions for guiding inquiry day by day, the author provides an account of how teachers can learn from their students as they use language and literacy for authentic purposes.
