Abstract
The spectrum of clinical disease associated with Herpesvirus hominis Type 2 (HVH-2) infection of the female genital tract is reviewed. Aspects of the epidemiology, diagnosis and therapy of genital herpes and the possible significance of HVH-2 infection in the etiology of cancer of the cervix are discussed. The importance of genital herpes as a risk to the health of the fetus and neonate is outlined with particular reference to obstetric management.
