Abstract
This concluding chapter highlights several future directions that might fruitfully be brought to bear on additional research that would be useful in helping scholars and industry stakeholders better understand the value of cultural heritage and its tourism manifestations in Africa. In particular, it focuses on sustainable heritage tourism with a focus on community-based development; heritage, nation-building and identity; extraordinary heritage versus ordinary heritage; perspectives on diasporas and migration; special-interest market niches; poverty as heritage; Africa’s image challenges; and the value of routes and trails in heritage tourism development.
