Abstract
A PHILLIPS 400T transmission electron microscope for gas-solid studies was modified using a differentially pumped model. An environmental cell (E-cell) consisting of a small chamber with 200 and 400 micrometer apertures was fitted in the 9 mm gap between twin lens objective pole pieces. E-cell performance was then tested by studying various gas solid reactions. The atomic level reaction mechanisms were investigated using a video recording system.
