Experimental modal analysis of automobile tires was undertaken and large number of tests were conducted to propose empirical and semi-empirical models. Measurement errors arising from aliasing and leakage were minimized by the selection of excitation signals to obtain reliable results. The modal parameters of the tires should be independent of the external working conditions and free suspension should be adopted in tire experimental modal tests. The structural and macro characteristics obtained from two different types of tires were found to agree with each other.
