Abstract
In parallel with the pediatric obesity epidemic, the incidence of impaired glucose tolerance and type 2 diabetes has increased among youth. Insulin resistance is thought to be central to the pathophysiology of these obesity-related disorders. A growing body of literature suggests that exercise may ameliorate insulin resistance and thus potentially reduce the long-term diabetes risk in overweight youth.
