Abstract

Regulators within the agri-food sector in jurisdictions such as the European Union (EU), the United States (US) and Australia have been looking at the adequacy of the available and re-cast instruments and tools that may be used to effectively regulate the risk of new materials, products and processes. This chapter provides a detailed examination of the regulatory landscape and legal hurdles for food related applications of nanotechnologies today in the EU and the US. In doing so, the chapter also provides a sketch of what this landscape may look like in the coming years.
