title = "Dynamics of a Large Induction Motor Load System",
abstract = "A simulation model used to study the dynamics of a large induction motor load system in a integrated steel mill was discussed. The steel mill load was predominantly rotating equipment driven by induction and synchronous motors. Results obtained from simulations were found to be useful in assessing the role of the impedance that must exist in general utility load subsystems between the subtransmission station buses and the motor loads. Simulation of steel mill behavior also showed that the critical factor in configuring and setting protection on the tie lines between the mill and regional grid is the ability of the systems to reaccelerate the large population of induction motors.",
