Abstract
Scattering of an axion charge off an oriented fundamental or cosmic axion string is shown to be equivalent to (three-dimensional) Aharonov-Casher scattering through a duality transformation. This allows us to determine the differential cross section, and also to further elucidate the relation between the Aharonov-Casher and the Aharonov-Bohm effects. We also demonstrate the existence of a regular soliton solution with axion charge and quantum hair similar to a previously obtained classical axionic black hole.
