Abstract

Examines successional patterns at three spatial scales following stream ecosystem disturbance and explores factors controlling ecosystem structure and process at three temporal scales. Detailed consideration of spatial and temporal scale of succession and ecosystem processes is essentially a case study from Sycamore Creek, Maricopa County, Arizona, a northern Sonoran Desert stream that has been intensively studied since 1978. Nutrient constraints, disturbances and biological interactions are factors that interact in varying combinations to control structure and processes in all streams. -from Author
