DATA BASE SYSTEM FOR HAZARDOUS MATERIALS TRANSPORTATION.

This paper reports on a hazardous materials transportation study conducted in Arizona. Two types of surveys were conducted: hazardous waste shipments for 1983 and 1984 compiled from manifests; one-week survey of hazardous material placarded trucks at Arizona's ports of entry. DBASE III was used to generate a Data Base for manipulating the data. Two data files were created; the first was called 'MANIFEST' which contained the hazardous waste data (5078 records) and the second file called 'HAZARD' which contained the port of entry data (3495 records). A set of command procedures were developed to permit the user to perform several functions, such as: 1) To select between hazardous material data and hazardous waste data, 2) To perform system diagnosis in terms of checking the correctness of coding chemical classes, EPA identification codes, and routes selected, 3) To develop a summary report.
