Abstract
Location-based services (LBS) are applications that utilize the position of an end-user, animal or thing based on a given device for a particular purpose. Despite the growing sophistication and complexity of such services, problems pertaining to uncertainty are increasing. This scenario is demonstrated using the "Control Unwired" case set in Australia and has five short stories focusing on vulnerability, liberty, association, policing and duplicity. This case shows that the use of LBS may have unintended but long-term adverse effects. In view of this, the recommendations are cross-disciplinary debate and technology assessment using detailed scenario planning.
