Researchers worldwide are searching for a new way to raise efficiencies of solar energy. One technique uses concentrated photovoltaic collector technology (CPV). The multijunction concentrator solar cells used in CPV are based on III-V semiconductors, which is the GaInP/GaInAs/Ge cell. The CPV systems use relatively small quantities of cells inside a larger optical system that tracks the sun. Although it has disadvantage of requiring large areas of real estate, it has showed promise for high-efficiency, low-cost power generation. This device can convert more than 40% of the sun's energy into electrical energy.
