Abstract
This article examines the way in which Busi Cortés engages in the formation of the New Mexican Cinema imbuing it with a feminist perspective that is at once personal and political in her debut feature film El secreto de Romelia (1988). Upon adapting Rosario Castellanos' short novel El viudo Román (1964), she updates Castellanos' feminist thought for a new generation and new audiences, making explicit the post-'68 political shifts, and including women in the construction of a new Mexican political reality.
