Abstract

Increasing demand for low-density or wilderness recrea tion has caused the problems of management and alloca tion of undeveloped public lands to become an important problem. This paper describes a large-scale traffic- simulation model developed to evaluate the implications of alternative management strategies for the quality of the recreational services provided by wilderness areas. The model is capable of simulating recreational patterns in real-world systems and has been applied to the Spanish Peaks Primitive Area in Montana.
