By introducing extra degree of freedom into the space-domain stencils, an isotropy-improved nonstandard finite-difference (NSFD) (2,2) method is presented in this paper. The technique is also extended to the higher-order (2,4) stencils. Both analytical and numerical results are presented and compared to demonstrate the accuracy and the strengths of these methods.
