Abstract
Adsorption equilibrium constants and intracrystalline diffusivities of methanol, ethanol, acetone from aqueous solution and toluene, acetone in cyclohexane solution in silicalite crystals were determined using HPLC. The ease of using LC technique in the determination of adsorption and diffusion of liquids into very small zeolite crystal powders is demonstrated. The intracrystalline diffusivities were evaluated by direct time domain fitting of the LC response peaks. The mathematical model agrees well with the experimentally measured response peaks for the adsorption systems with linear adsorption isotherms. The intracrystalline diffusivities for the five adsorbates in water and cyclohexane solution were found to be in the same order of magnitude as the vapor intracrystalline diffusivities measured by the uptake method.
