Abstract
Decision-oriented dimensional data marts, which are different than transaction-oriented relational databases, are developed. A distinctive methodology and a different set of tools are required for their effective development. The Dimensional Data Mart Development Methodology integrates the information systems development literature with the data warehouse literature to create an easy-to-follow, structured process for the data mart practitioner. The practical guidelines for analyzing the user environment for dimensional data marts are also presented.
