Project: Research project

Project Details

Description

This project will create digital archaeological archives at several USAF bases (Dyess AFB [TX]; Shaw AFB [SC]; and Avon Park AFB [FL]). These digital archives will serve as pilot studies for the development of a set of standard procedures that can be used to set up digital archives at other DoD facilities that need similar management tools. The bases selected for this pilot project do not have a digital archive for the records of past cultural resource investigations or the cultural resources on the bases. These record collections are essential to maintaining a link between the project efforts, physical artifact collections, and efforts documentation. Currently the records, documentation, and data are held in different locations and in differing formats. In addition to this, much of the documentation is still curated as hard paper copies, physical media, or in a non-preservation standard hardware/software.
