This chapter defines shopping tourism and tourist shopping, and highlights several trending issues in the academic research on retail and tourism. In particular it looks at venues and settings beyond the ubiquitous souvenir shop and mall. It also examines how shopping is being used by different destinations as a way of creating a tourist brand or place image. Trends in demand and globalization are also highlighted, as well as the forces creating changes in demand and supply.
