Abstract
Measurements of glass transition temperatures, equivalent volumes, refractive indices, heat capacities, and sound velocities have been made on glassforming mixed nitrates M(I)NO//3 plus M(II)(NO//3)//2. When either a divalent or monovalent cation is replaced by a heavier, more polarizable cation of the same charge, T//g decreases. On the other hand the changes in expansion coefficient and heat capacity occurring at T//g are not affected when Ca(II) is replaced by Cd(II) in the KNO//3-M(II)(NO//3)//2 system. Expansion coefficients were calculated from the temperature dependence of refractive index. 36 refs.
