note = "Funding Information: Another means of transfemng technology from engineering and computer sciences to the biological sciences and vice versa, is by supporting the training and development of specific individuals through government programs. Both the NIH NCHGR and the DOE have programs to support highly qualified scientists seeking careers in interdisciplinary genomic research. Funding Information: The DOE Office of Health and Environmental Research (OHER) sponsors a program called Human Genome Distinguished Postdoctoral Fellowships to support research on projects sponsored by the Human Genome Program of DOE/OHER. These fellowship appointments which last 1 to 2 years, are tenable at DOE, private, and university laboratories having substantial research projects supported by the Human Genome Program of DOE/OHER and are administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The host investigator must have a research project funded by this program. The program seeks to improve current methods and develop new ones for determining DNA sequences; constructing complete physical maps for each human chromosome; determining sequences of selected DNA regions; developing new instrumentation, effective software, and database designs to support large-scale mapping and sequencing projects; and supporting investigations and activities aimed at understanding the ethical, legal, and social implications of the Human Genome Program. These goals span the disciplines of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, mathematics, and information science. OHER is particularly interested in supporting fellows who are seeking cross-training in a discipline different from their previous training e.g., biology to computational biol-ogy, engineering to biochemistry, etc. [5].",
