The Self-Guided Symbol Formation Strategy blends traditional procedures for teaching letter formation with cognitive behavior modification principles. It is an intensive remedial method and should only be applied to letters which the student consistently malforms. Only one letter is taught at a time and it is overlearned in isolation and then practiced in context. Finally, the procedure can be applied to both cursive or manuscript letters.
