Abstract
Mudskippers (subfamily Oxudercinae) are a group of 43 species adapted to a variety of intertidal habitats with changing tides and variation in salinities, including mangrove areas, tidal pools, tidal mudflats, and freshwater coastal swamps. Mudskippers are distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical Indo-West Pacific, with only one species, Periophthalmus barbarus, present in the eastern central Atlantic. Throughout these regions, mangroves are dominant coastal features that provide important ecosystem services, including primary habitat for mudskippers.
