Abstract

The problem of relating the resolved scale motions in a large eddy simulation to the non-resolved sub-grid scale mot ion, is considered from the view point of stochastic estimation. Algorithms governing the large scale field are derived ft, requiring minimum mean square prediction error at each time step. Possible forms for quasi-homogeneous regions suci as Smagorinski's model are analyzed.
