Abstract
Socioeconomic status reflects the resources an individual has connected to family income, household wealth, parental education, and occupation. Socioeconomic status is associated with almost every aspect of individual well-being, beginning prior to birth, and extending throughout the life course. Socioeconomic status affects personal development through a variety of biological, social, and material mechanisms, and there is on-going interplay between genetic influence and socioeconomic conditions. Socioeconomic conditions present at the neighborhood and societal levels also influence developmental course.
