title = "Samson on the Yard: Teaching Milton{\textquoteright}s Samson Agonistes in an Arizona Prison",
author = "David Hawkes and Joe Lockard",
note = "Funding Information: The classes dedicated to discussion of Samson Agonistes took place under the auspices of Joe Lockard{\textquoteright}s long-running poetry workshop at Florence State Prison. Our Milton teaching project functioned with authorization from the Arizona Department of Corrections and signed individual consent forms from each anonymous class participant. Class discussion provided background only. All participants remain anonymous, and we have not quoted any student directly. The authors wish to acknowledge the cooperation extended by the Arizona Department of Corrections, particularly that of Tim Lawrence. We thank the poetry workshop students of the South Unit at Florence State Prison for their comments, on both Samson Agonistes and an early draft of this paper. We further acknowledge and thank Derik Roof, the workshop{\textquoteright}s co-instructor, for his kind assistance. We wish to express our appreciation of the English Department at Arizona State University for its support of prison education programming.",
