Abstract

The interdisciplinary nature of the study of rock coatings has given rise to a large amount of literature on the subject, from such diverse fields as botany, tectonics, analytical chemistry and mineralogy. The aim of this volume is to provide a synthesis of this interdisciplinary field, and to give a comprehensive treatment to the topic of accretions on rock surfaces. The book is divided into three sections, the first one being an introduction, giving a general perspective on the subject. The second section details the different rock coatings, and the final section provides a synthesis of the material presented and suggests a general model to interpret the distribution of rock coatings found at the Earth's surface.
