Abstract
This chapter provides a discussion of religion's dynamic developments alongside contemporary communication technology connections and appropriations, focusing on the debate and issues surrounding the emergent paradoxes and challenges in the areas of religious authority, community and identity. The chapter spotlights key insights from prior reviews, and examines the dialectics, i.e. forces of interaction and relational tensions, in the relationships between religion and the Internet, involving the latest digital and social media applications. Illustrations are drawn from various religions, particularly the Catholic Church, the largest religious institution in the world.
