The main discussion topics are: main power quality indices and their use in standards; problems relating to missing fundamental components; problems relating to three phase voltages and currents; inter-harmonics (i.e., noninteger 'harmonics'); aperiodic signals; power factor and the relationship to losses; indices that convey information contrary to intuitive feeling; potential pitfalls in the construction of new standards; and needs in construction of new harmonic standards. In this presentation, some of these difficulties are studied with respect to the potential for counter-intuitive results. Also, the utilization of power quality indices in standards, particularly standards that relate to harmonics, can create some difficulties. These are outlined and suggestions for their correction are given.
